In 2003, in an effort to ensure physicians and other healthcare team members can practice in a respectful work environment that supports high quality and safe patient care, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario brought together a number of stakeholders (representative from all aspects of a physician’s career from training through to independent practice) to address the issue of how to manage physicians with disruptive behaviour. The end result is the Guidebook for Managing Disruptive Physician Behaviour, which addresses the issue of disruptive physician behaviour, and provides resources and tools to identify, prevent and manage the harmful consequences of this behaviour.
